This gleaming smile belonged to Emma Eagler at the end of her studies at the Irvona-Coalport High School.  Emma was born on June 25th, 1909, in Irvona, Clearfield, Pa. Her parents Joseph Eagler and Lavina “Vinnie” née McGarvey had 6 children (Dora, Byrd, Earl, Luetta, Emma and Francis), Emma was the second youngest. Father Joseph was a teamster … Continue reading Emma Eagler Markley from Irvona, Pa

Laura Gates née Waterman

11. Feb 2022Leave a comment

This next one was pretty easy to research! Thank you to whoever scribbled so much information on the reverse of this found photo! Pleased to meet you, "Laura Gates, aged 68, taken 1909. Born Dec 22nd, 1850" Even though the writer made a slight calculation error (Mrs Gates was 58 years old when this photo … Continue reading Laura Gates née Waterman

Elly Kuphal, “a poet from Hamburg”

5. Feb 20225. Feb 2022Leave a comment

This photo came to me from German ebay as part of a random lot of photos. I was immediately mesmerized by the beauty and tenderness of the sitter. And then I discovered the poem written on the reverse. With a little help from a Facebook group, I could make out the poem and the name of … Continue reading Elly Kuphal, “a poet from Hamburg”

Niina Kampus and Vladimir Sild from Estonia

25. Jan 202225. Jan 2022Leave a comment

I found this photo in my favourite antique store in Tallinn, Estonia. Vladimir Sild (1905-1979) and Niina Kampus (1918-1996) got engaged and shared this wonderful news at Christmas in 1939 with their family and friends. In 1942, they became parents to a little son Vello. The family lived in Kaavere/Viljandi in Estonia. The cemetery in … Continue reading Niina Kampus and Vladimir Sild from Estonia

Frieda Gossmann née Hofmann

22. Nov 2021Leave a comment

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I've been sharing photos of a couple, Helga and Gerhard, from Plauen. This photo of Frieda Hofmann from 1918 in Hamburg seemed a little lost in Helga's photo lot from Plauen. Hamburg is over 500 km away from Plauen. How did Frieda's photo end up in … Continue reading Frieda Gossmann née Hofmann

Boxer Johann “Rukeli” Trollmann

21. Sep 202121. Sep 2021Leave a comment

These two photos show the young boxers of „BC Sparta Linden“, the North German Champions of 1929. Among them, the face of young Johann "Rukeli" Trollmann (1907-1944) whose tragic story has been haunting me since I was gifted these photos a few weeks ago. Johann "Rukeli" Trollmann was born and raised in a big Sinto-German … Continue reading Boxer Johann “Rukeli” Trollmann

Sisters Gretel and Frieda Schlegel

1. Jun 2021Leave a comment

This little batch of photos came to me from German ebay. These are photos of one family Schlegel: sisters Gretel and Frieda and their parents. Although all the photos are identified with names and I have clues regarding locations, I don't find anything on this family in the papertrail, available to me online. Firstly, were … Continue reading Sisters Gretel and Frieda Schlegel

Eugenie Siligmüller, Nürnberg

26. May 2021Leave a comment

This tender being came to me from German ebay. Isn't she just breath-taking, like a 1920s silent movie star! Her name was Eugenie Siligmüller and she had her photo taken in Nürnberg, Germany. If I'm correct with my research, her full name was Barbara Eugenie Siligmüller. On September 28th,1920, she married Dr. Bonaventura Friedrich Karl … Continue reading Eugenie Siligmüller, Nürnberg

The Kadenbach family photo album

5. May 202111. May 2021Leave a comment

Another family treasure has found its way to me - a photo album that used to belong to the family Kadenbach before it ended up on sale on German ebay. Some time in the last 130 years, someone made the effort to glue these photos onto the album pages with some kind of a vintage … Continue reading The Kadenbach family photo album

The Moseders from Munich

26. Jan 2021Leave a comment

This small lot of photos of the same woman came to me from the German ebay. The identity of this lady was haunting me several days and it began to look like another brick wall. There were hardly any clues to hold on to. One of her photos was taken in Munich, Germany. So perhaps … Continue reading The Moseders from Munich

Instagram

I've been a little unmotivated to post cause I've had to test @instagram 's new full-screen design and it kills photography and story-telling for me. Unless you're a tiktok and video friend and don't share any longer captions to your videos, this new design is rubbish and I sincerely hope Instagram will not apply this for everyone after their testing period. Vertical full-screen photos may survive this change, but not horizontal or square photos, they look ridiculously tiny on a full screen. And if you want to read someone's caption, you have to click for it to blend onto the photo in a small white almost see-through font. I feel really sorry for all the story-tellers among us, including myself, as well as small businesses, cause all the captions become so secondary. I already ranted about this in my Stories, but in case you missed it, I've included some examples from my own feed as well as from the accounts that I appreciate equally for their photos as well as for their captions. I love your accounts so much but feel like Instagram's new design won't do you any justice.

The joy of a moment in space and time!
For today's #weddingwednesday I have another French mystery for you🧐🔍. The way I understand it, this is a wedding photo of one Jacqueline Jamin from 1946 and it was gifted to Renee and Yves Jamin, right?
Twinning Tuesday😄
Another French mystery🕵‍♀️🕵‍♂️🔍 I asked you guys in my Story how you would read the surname of the grandparents. I thought it read Cellier, you also offered Eellier, Tellier, Erllier. I also understand that these are grandparents with their daughter and grand-daughter. Was the grand-daughter's name Orio? Orio probably had her daddy's surname, and not her maternal grandparents'. I would date the photo to early 1910s. But I have no other clues, where it might have been taken.🤷🏼‍♀️ Anything else you notice?🧐🔍
UPDATED Thank you, wonderful community🥳👏! The surname is Scherzer instead! And perhaps we might have found the siblings:
Good news on this #weddingwednesday 🥳🎉 - this wedding photo from 1930 is going home to its family in France!💕 I didn't even get to share my findings with you. 🤓 But sometimes synchronicity happens fast and they've been found now!🙏
As you know, I mostly collect pre-1950s photos, but here's a more recent snapshot that was just too cute to pass. Unfortunately it has no information or clues as to names or location. Does anyone recognise the model of the car? This could give us a clue as to when the photo was taken.
