A Fun Day with Cora Kuehn Sheddy and Ben Craig

29. Jul 202229. Jul 2022Leave a comment

Yesterday I published a blogpost about William Hayden Kuehn. Today I write about her fun auntie Cora Sheddy née Kuehn. And later I will explore who the other person, Ben Craig, might have been. But let's start with Cora. Cora Kuehn and Hayden’s father Charles Kuehn were siblings. Cora Ann Kuehn was born on September … Continue reading A Fun Day with Cora Kuehn Sheddy and Ben Craig

"My father Pierre Saillat, 1863"
Good morning from us, a lovely family from the past! Our lady's polka dot dress was the latest fashion cry. Our lord had a playful twinkle in his eyes, a friendliness and approachability about him that the children just adored. Oh, and the children - you could not find a better bunch of little angels! We, the two governesses in the back row, could not believe our luck that we ended up working for these lovely people!
I can't stop looking at these two!🤩
Can you imagine going to the beach, wearing a corset and a long dress of many layers?!☀️🥵🤯 Maybe she had a bathing dress, made out of wool (!), hanging in her wardrobe. But she also would have needed a bathing machine (you know, the little houses on wheels) to change and dip her into the water safely guarded from the public eye. Cause you know, a woman engaging in a vigorous activity on the beach or in the water, and maybe even having fun while at it😉, was not tolerated by the Victorian etiquette😵
Dora Störtbecker on the beach of Sankt Peter-Ording in Germany, a popular seaside resort with a very wide beach at the North Sea. ☀️⛱️🌊 I can't find Dora's story, maybe you can help? 🔍🕵‍♀️🕵‍♂️ I find one Dora Störtebecker living in Hamburg in 1960. Since these photos came to me from Hamburg, it might have been her, despite the minor spelling difference.🤔 But I find nothing else.🤷🏼‍♀️
When it's summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime ☀️⛱️🌊😎
BLOGGED This "fake" wedding photo of Cora Sheddy née Kuehn and Ben Craig looks like fun. Why fake? Cause Cora didn't really marry Ben, instead she was married to Frank Sheddy, the man with the glasses smoking a pipe in the background. Whatever the occasion for this play wedding photo, it definitely looks like it was a fun day among friends with lots of laughs!
BLOGGED Little Hayden William Kuehn (1904-1983) grew up in Philadelphia. He was a smart kid and very good with numbers as well as with a violin. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a renowned business school. He started out as a solicitor in bonds, and soon moved to New York to take up employment with Dun & Bradstreet where "he taught supervisors how to be bosses" for more than 20 years. It was only when life slowed down in retirement that Hayden found love elsewhere than in his job - he married Jean Proctor and spent his last years with her until his death in 1983.
Bye-bye, off to a much-deserved vacation!🚂🚄🛳✈️🚗☀️
Happy #tietheknotthursday 💕
